Some of the people who take note of this section may already be aware of the situation, but there are currently moves afoot by Hachette UK to completely close down their Edinburgh office which is the home of the Chambers dictionary. This has potentially dire consequences for the continued future of what is (in my opinion) the best single volume English dictionary in the world. It could also be severely damaging to the publishing industry in Scotland. You can read more details here:
